WORKSHOP I
Friday, February 18 - 8:15PM - 9:30PM

Title Illusions with a Message
Instructor Marty Hahne
Description Marty will draw from his extensive experience as a performer in churches and schools to show how illusions can be used to communicate the gospel and good values.  Both solo and audience participation routines will be demonstrated.  Marty will present several routines right out of his programs and many messages can be adapted to props you already own.



Title Family Fun Shows
Instructor Steve Kissell
Description Do you like games, contests and lots of audience participation? Then this ‘playshop’ is for you!  Steve will show you time-tested routines that are great for young children as well as seniors. Learn how to set up and structure a fun performance involving comedy magic, MC work, puppets, clowning, music and LOTS of hilarious audience participation.  Everyone in this class will have a great time!



Title 5 Minute Messages
Instructor Gary and Ann Gramlich
Description Make the most of your kid’s moments with these easy to do, meaningful object lessons using magic, 260 balloons, props and story telling.



Title Beginning Balloons
Instructor Will Channon
Description Learn how to make balloon characters using the basic twist and balloons of different sizes (160s, 260s, 350s, 646s, 5” round, heart shaped, and 321s or bee bodies).  Learn what to do before you go to twist balloons and how to work with people and a crowd. Sculptures may include lady bugs and turtles, apples, hearts, swords, dogs, giraffes, bears, hummingbirds, butterflies, tulips, and different hats.



Title God’s Sense of Humor
Instructor Rafael Rondon
Description In this class, Rafael will teach the basic principles of using clowning as a tool in ministry.  Topics will include: how to clown in different ministry settings, selecting props that help teach biblical messages, and presenting the gospel as a clown.  Rafael will also talk about doing an invitation to make a profession of faith as a clown including the do’s and don’ts and basic ABC elements of an invitation.



Title Hospital Clowing
Instructor JoAnn Narewski
Description Learn the difference between a ‘caring clown’ who visits hospitals and nursing homes and clowns who entertain at parties and corporate events. You will also learn how to get started in the hospital environment; who to contact and what questions to ask; how to interact with staff and patients; and proper handling of your props.  JoAnn will cover how to work in different areas of the hospital, proper etiquette for entering and exiting a patient’s room, and best practices for maintaining the health and welfare of yourself and the patient. Good thing she provides an outline!



Title Lite Auguste Makeup Design and Application Techniques
Instructor J.T. Sikes. 
Description Join Bubba at his table in the dealer room to learn how to use the newest makeup and powders to create a soft, non-threatening clown look that fits your face, is easy to apply, and will not frighten children.  If you’re struggling with your makeup, this class is for you!

Title The Easy Way to Create Themed Shows
Instructor Marty Hahne
Description You’ve been asked by a church or school to present a program emphasizing a particular theme or educational point.  Now what do you do?  Marty will show a simple, step-by-step formula that will make writing themed shows fast and easy.  Having a theme will make your show more valuable and rewarding.  Marty will use several illusions throughout the presentation as examples.



Title Glitter Tattoos – Introducing a
Glitter-tastic Addition to Your Business or Ministry
Instructor Terrie Basko
Description This class will introduce you to the new Glitter Tattoos and give instructions on how to apply and care for the tattoos as well as tips on how to set up a professional Glitter Tattoo station to make your business shine!



Title Making Your Ministry Come Alive
Instructor Gary and Ann Gramlich
Description Need some new and fresh ideas for your shows, programs, worship services, etc.?  Be ready to get involved and have some FUN!!  This is our #1 requested workshop for ‘how to’ with props, music, pvc, and more!



Title Clown Safety is More Than a Foam Hammer
Instructor Steve Narewski and Dana Abendschein.
Description We all assume that everyone loves a clown, but wait; there are some who want to pull off your nose, stomp on your feet, or worse, oh my!  Learn how to recognize behaviors of aggressors and what to do about them.  Also learn how to protect you and your family from the germs and nasty viruses your audience can conceal, and how to keep your clown character from spreading disease!



Title Going Through a Looney Stage 
Instructor Angel Contreras
Description This interactive class will show you how animated cartoons are wonderful resources for clown character development, skit blocking, and comedic timing.  Angel will help you look at the cartoon through the eyes of a clown to learn valuable lessons in character creativity, techniques to produce cartoon-like clown mayhem, and to polish up your stage presence.  This is a participation class, so get ready to have fun!



Title Becoming a Balloon Entertainer
Instructor Wayne Gillam.  
Description This class is designed to weave the three critical elements of entertainment (positive, memorable, and special) into your balloon twisting.  This class is NOT about HOW to twist balloons, but teaches the people side of balloons.

Title Magic and Story Telling
Instructor Steve Kissell
Description Share in the surprising delight of learning over a dozen stories that will enliven your magical performance. This is one of Steve’s most requested playshops.  Learn the skills you need to combine this art form with others.  Great for working with libraries, daycare’s, schools, and birthday parties. This is an audience participation class so get ready to have fun!



Title Glitter Tattoos – Tips, Tricks, and Special Techniques
Instructor Terrie Basko
Description This class will teach in detail special tips, tricks, and techniques on how to apply and care for Glitter Tattoos. If you aren’t artistically inclined and haven’t been able to master face painting, this class is definitely for you!  You will be amazed at the beautiful work you can create using Glimmer Body Art.  If you’re already an artist, you can learn how to ‘paint’ with glimmer art, which is much more than a stencil!  This will be a hands-on, or should we say, ‘on-hands’ demonstration!



Title Makin’ Faces: Drawing Simple Cartoon Faces
Instructor Angel Contreras
Description This demonstration/hands-on session will illustrate how simple lines and shapes can be used for drawing expressive cartoon faces.  Clowns, balloonists, or face painters can use these techniques to help give some extra character and uniqueness to their craft.  No prior art skills needed.



Title Advanced Balloons
Instructor Will Channon
Description Learn how to make balloon characters using two or more balloons and also using additional twists.  Examples may include doodle bugs, caterpillars, a ball in the balloon, dolls, multi-balloon hats, and a rocking horse.



Title Making Sense of Your Show
Instructor Rafael Rondon
Description Clowning is more than knowing skits and tricks. Most clowns need help putting the skills they can do into one presentation that makes sense. This class will help you learn how to put together a clown show that carries a line of thought or theme from the beginning to the end.  This is an advanced principle, but simple enough for beginners. 



Title Improve Your Improv(isation)
Instructor Tony Jones
Description This is a fun class where the students get involved!  Tony will teach you to make your mind work faster in your performance with the help of three or four exercises that you will practice. This is pure FUN!



Makeup Help 12:30pm-1:30pm on Saturday
Where: Convention Hall, breakfast area
Instructor Show Me faculty and task force
Description Get help with the application of your clown face (bring your own makeup and a mirror) and learn helpful tidbits for refining your face design from some experts.  This informal class is highly recommended for all beginning clowns.

Balloon Jam Saturday Night!!
Lead by Will Channon
Description Come with your balloons and pump to share ideas and have fun making new creations.  Anyone who loves balloons or may be thinking about ballooning should come and meet others working with balloons.  You do not have to be at an advanced level to join this time of FUN!



Face Painting Jam Saturday Night!!
Lead by Terrie Basko
Description Come with your paints to share ideas and have fun painting and trying new things.  Anyone who loves to paint or may be thinking about face painting should come.  You do not have to take the workshop classes to join this time of FUN!

Title Chemical Mayhem
Instructor Len Fort and Herb Riley
Description Learn how to do exciting gospel illusions using ordinary, household chemicals.  Spread the good news in a new interactive way that will be memorable for your audience.  NOTE: Personal protective equipment (gloves, masks and chemical resistant suits) is advised for this class (just kidding!).



Title Gospel Story Telling
Instructor Debbie Fort and Katie Riley
Description This class will teach you how to use objects from around the house, illusions, balloons, props, and books to tell exciting stories that point others to Christ.



Title Ventriloquism for Children
Instructor Brenda Hahne
Description Both beginning and experienced ventriloquists will find value in this workshop.  The emphasis will be on presenting ventriloquism to audiences of children. Topics will include: show structure, picking material for different age groups, how to write material for children’s shows, different ways to get laughs, tips on audience participation, and more!



Title Give-Aways in Ministry
Instructor Cheryl Stem
Description This class will show you lots of tried and true giveaway ideas including how to make a basket out of the funny papers. You will also learn how to use the giveaways in ministry.  Cheryl will share the one giveaway that is so nice, you can’t give it away once; you must give it away twice!  Do you know what it is?



Title Gospel Clown Magic
Instructor Rafael Rondon
Description Many performers use magic tricks in a gospel program.  Clowns, however, use magic in a different way that has to be funny, and sometimes the trick seems to be in control of the clown!  Rafael will focus on the performance and help you to think like clowns and not like magicians.  He will also teach examples for using comedy magic with gospel applications.
